How to identify construction wear parts

Tooth system, pin size and edge pitch — not a lookalike

Bucket teeth, adapters, cutting edges, pins and wear plates are identified by system and suffix, not by 'a tooth that looks like ours'. Ordering the wrong profile or pin diameter loses a shift and can wreck an adapter. This page is the sequence for ground-engaging and general wear parts on construction plant before you open the category or send a crate photo to sales.

Name the system on the bucket

Tooth and adapter families are not mixed. A pin that almost enters will walk out. Photograph the tooth from the side and the nose of the adapter, and measure pin diameter and length. Copy every letter in the suffix — hardness and profile live there. If the adapter is mushroomed, the repair is the adapter, not a tighter tooth.

Edges, plates and fasteners

Bolt-on edges are hole pitch, thickness and width, plus whether the edge is double-bevel. Countersink versus square hole is a different bolt. Wear plates are hardness and whether they wrap a corner. Do not order '20 mm plate' without the hole pattern. Reuse of stretched bolts is a leak path for the next edge.

Machine and duty still matter

The same tooth family on a 20-tonne excavator in granite is not the farm-ditch spec. Write abrasive versus impact on the order. Make and model catch brackets and extra-wide edges that were unique to a region. Construction-parts listings help when the machine is known; the stamp on the tooth or edge is the backup.

Pins, retainers and why 'almost fits' fails

Pin diameter, length and retainer style are the identity of the joint. A pin that almost enters will walk. A tooth from another family that 'sits' will still beat an adapter to death. Photograph the retainer, not only the tooth profile. If the adapter is mushroomed, stop ordering teeth — photograph the nose and replace the adapter with the teeth as a set.

Hardfacing versus replace

Hardfacing a worn edge can be cheaper than a new edge on some dozer and loader corners. It is the wrong save when hole pitch is elongated or the edge is cracked through a bolt hole. Countersunk edges take countersunk bolts; square holes take plow bolts. Reuse of stretched bolts is a leak path for the next edge. Write abrasive versus impact so the next edge is the right steel, not the leftover bar in the rack.

Undercarriage and hydraulic leaks are separate cluster pages — do not specify a hose from a tooth photograph. Return to the construction pillar for duty and media. Workshop sequence

Name the tooth or edge family from the adapter nose, not from a crate photo. Measure pin diameter and length; copy the retainer style and every letter in the suffix. If the adapter is mushroomed, the repair is the adapter plus teeth. For bolt-on edges, record hole pitch, thickness, width, bevel and whether holes are countersunk or square. Do not reuse stretched bolts. Write abrasive versus impact and the machine make/model. Send that pack to sales when the published list is empty. Do not specify a hose from a tooth photograph — leaks and undercarriage have their own pages.

What to put in the crate photo

Side profile of the tooth, adapter nose, pin and retainer, plus a scale (caliper or tape). For edges: hole pitch, a bolt, and the bevel. Blurry mud is not a spec. If the suffix is worn off, the adapter family still photographs. Send abrasive versus impact and the carrier make/model with the pictures. SEROC would rather ask for a second measurement than ship a pin that walks. Do not mix undercarriage pads into a tooth crate — different cluster, different quote line.

Hole pitch that is elongated from worn bolts will not be saved by a new edge on the old fasteners. Replace the bolts. If two teeth in the crate are different families, stop and re-identify — mixed pins are how adapters get destroyed on the first shift. A pin that almost enters will walk; do not tap it home to 'check fit' and then order a crate of that family. Countersunk edges need countersunk bolts; a square-head bolt in a countersink will not clamp and will lose the edge on the first abrasive shift.
